Educational - Inspirational - Interactive: Circus & Drama Workshops

Andy Pendlebury: Area Youth Officer for Dover, Ashford and Shepway at Kent County Council

Tom Kellett is an outstanding performer who specialises in Circus Skills. Tom's greatest strength is that he fully understands the ethos of working with young people and through his Circus Workshops, provides creative activities which are challenging, educational, recreational and fun. Tom has the knowledge as a fully qualified and nationally recognised youth worker to ensure that young people work and play together in a safe environment ensuring that all abilities and disabilities are catered for. Tom is dedicated, committed and enthusiastic in his approach to working with young people. As a result of his teaching, young people grow in confidence, build up their own self esteem, make new friends, learn new skills and the young people go on to teach circus skills to their peers. I have used Tom for Diversity Festivals, Celebration of Christmas at Canterbury Cathedral, County Sports Events and International Residentials, to name but a few. Tom is great value for money and when organising a County or Local event, Tom would be top of my list in ensuring the event is a success.

Emily Rose Greenwood: Director, Freelance Performer, Aerial Teacher and Choreographer at Emily Rose Circus

Tom has inspired hundreds of young people in his career as a Youth Practitioner. He has boundless energy, creativity and enthusiasm to offer in his work. He is a highly skilled circus performer and great to work with in a team situation. I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Justin Wanstall: Senior Youth Work Practitioner for Thanet at Kent County Council
The young people and staff at the Youth Centre have asked me to thank you for the Circus Skills Workshops you have been providing. The young people have had a great time and learned many new skills. The staff have also been equally impressed with your professionalism and amazing ability to engage the members. We are looking forward to the next Workshop.

Jan Holben: Vice Chairman at Sandgate Parish Council
Tom Kellett of TK Arts attended our Community Event at Sandgate Recreation Ground in August to provide a range of circus skills workshops for children. Set up was a particularly busy time for me ensuring that all activity providers were in the right place and Tom, with minimal instructions from me, set himself up and prepared himself for his young proteges. Throughout the day I watched as Tom guided each youngster gently through the basics of plate spinning or juggling etc and judging by the photographs I saw afterward they had a great time. Tom is professional in his approach in terms of doing exactly what he said he would do and of course providing the necessary paperwork. Tom was engaging with the children (and parents) in helping them to learn circus skills. We will definitely be asking Tom to join us for future Community Events.

Alex Knight: SME Business Advisor
Tom has a tangible passion for his art. He has the ability to 'connect' with young people (and old) and to generate the enthusiasm to participate. I have watched him persuade a senior Council member (in a formal gathering) to put aside his inhibitions and to really enjoy learning basic juggling skills! Impressive!

Ben Rose: Senior Youth Work Practitioner for Swale at Kent County Council

TK Arts have done a number of sessions with our young people this year and I have always been impressed with the professional approach to the different needs and aspirations of the group that they work with.

Jules Howarth: Freelance Street & Stage Performer, Circus Tutor, Creative Producer and Video Maker

I've known Tom since secondary school and he's a fine chap. Reliable and dedicated. When we've worked together he's done his job really well and still remained fun and engaging to work with. His dedication to youth work is great.

Natalie Penfold: Senior Worker at Maidstone Youth Project for Kent County Council
As a youth project that works with young people aged 11-19, it can be hard to find activities that will engage this age group but because of his years as a youth worker, Tom at TK Arts has no problem getting young people involved in circus skills. During the 4 workshops he delivered for my project over the summer, the young people all enjoyed trying the wide range of circus equipment and Tom was very good at helping the young people get better and better! Great fun and at an excellent and affordable price - would thoroughly recommend.

Helen Blanche: Greenspaces Officer at Swale Borough Council
Tom has worked extensively with Swale Borough Council in relation to the Sittingbourne Skate Park Project and he works tirelessly to gain a good outcome for the young people in the area. In relation to Swale Borough Council, Tom organised funding for The Sittingbourne Skatepark Group to visit skateparks in both Kent and Essex to carry out research on concrete skateparks. As part of the research, Tom compiled a video for future funding bids including footage of the young people at each venue we visited plus interviews. This video is being used for funding bids. Tom also organised and implemented all Health and Safety issues relating to the visits. Tom is part of the Swale Borough Council Steering Group which is working towards a large concrete skatepark facility for Sittingbourne.

Andrew Leale: Parent of child's 9th Birthday Party at Tonbridge School Centre
Thanks for a great party. Tom kept the children engaged and excited throughout and they all came away thrilled to have learnt a new trick!

Tim Westacott: Parent of child's 11th Birthday Party in Cardiff
We booked Tom to run a Circus Workshop for our daughter Meg’s 11th birthday party. As well as his undoubted performance skills, he was also a brilliant teacher, managing to engage all the children, even the quieter ones, with his unique mixture of circus and drama skills. We  would wholeheartedly recommend Tom’s Circus Workshops to anybody!

Zoe Clarke: Parent of child's 6th Birthday Party in London
Tom's circus skills show for my son's 6th birthday party was fantastic! The children were kept entertained throughout. They really enjoyed having a go at all the activities including juggling, the diabolo and clowning. Tom engaged really well with the kids and gave everyone the opportunity to get involved!

Vanessa Mead: Friend of Zoe Clarke at child's 6th Birthday Party in London
We watched Tom perform at my friend's son's birthday party. He kept the children thoroughly entertained and enthralled with his amazing circus skills. Tom was great fun and children loved him!

Amy Perner: Youth Co-ordinator of 8-12s Projects at West Kent Communities

We were introduced to Tom through Young Kent. We have worked with him before and know he has over 20yrs of experience working with young people. He is fantastic at engaging young people and keeping them interested whilst having fun. A lot of the children that use our service, lack confidence and have low self-esteem. Tom was able to recognise who these children were and worked with them positively to help build on their confidence. By the end of the session, it was clear they were delighted with what they had achieved and proud of the skills they had learnt. We would highly recommend Tom and will certainly be using him again in future clubs.

Jayne Russell: PTFA Chair at Goudhurst & Kilndown School, Cranbrook
Tom's organisation of the day, his dedication to making it a success, and his rapport with the children, were a testament to his years of experience and qualifications. His circus workshops in the morning were enjoyed by the whole school and his calmness in the chaotic afternoon party, would make me highly recommend him to anyone looking for his skill set. Thankyou.

Simon Withey: Chairman of Capel Youth Club in Folkestone
Through Young Kent we were able to book Tom for an evening of "Circus Skills Workshop" for our Youth Club members. The children are aged 9-14, and everyone took part in trying almost all of the activities Tom brought to us. There was much laughter and fun had by all, including some of the leaders who just had to have a go! We found Tom to be very good with the children, was patient and also able to hold their attention in the work groups. He provided a great variety of activities for the children to try and we would recommend his services to other youth organisations for a fun evening.

Isobel Mehrabian: Joint Chair at Frittenden Youth Club in Tunbridge Wells
Tom provided a stimulating, challenging and fun evening for our group of 25 youngsters aged 10-16yrs. He engaged the kids well and the skills he taught them provided an opportunity to feel a great sense of achievement when they mastered them. It also gave the opportunity to work with a partner or as a team. All in all, this was an excellent evening. I am already being asked to buy some plate spinning packs and some juggling balls for us all to enjoy.

Janey Hagger: Parent of child's 10th Birthday Party in London
Thank you so much for all the fun that was had at Megan's 10th birthday party. Even the shyest kids enjoyed it and since then, various spinning plates, juggling and diabolo-ing has been going on. A word from Megan: Thank you for my great party! I had the best party ever thanks to you. It was really fun learning how to do the secret tricks. We all loved the slapstick and acting out all sorts of clowning. Thanks!

Donna Wickens: PE Co-Ordinator and Personalisation Leader Foxwood School in Hythe
I heard about Tom's workshops by word of mouth from another school who were aware of him via his youth work. Tom replied to my email enquiry almost immediately and provided a thorough explanation of the wide variety of sessions he can provide. I was impressed with the range of experience that he had, the variety of what he could provide, and his recognition of the needs and learning styles our pupils would be likely to have. Tom arrived in plenty of time to set up, was very organised, and the children (and the staff!) all loved their day. Tom was very accommodating to our children's special needs and was able to adapt his delivery accordingly. We had a fantastic day and I'd certainly recommend Tom to all schools and youth organisations with pupils/youngsters of all abilities.

Paula: Joint Leader at Halling Youth Club in Rochester
Tom knows how to get them engaged/involved. Most were enthralled. The members listened well to the instructions and concentrated on learning new skills. They were unhappy when it was time to pack up! I would recommend Tom to others and would certainly have him back.

Dave Gurney: Parent of child's 6th Birthday Party in Faversham
I would highly recommend Tom Kellett of TK Arts. We opted for the 2hr Circus Workshop for our daughter's 6th Birthday Party. From initial contact until after the day, the service was professional, quick, efficient and great value. The workshop itself was fantastic fun and Tom had all the kids engaged. Thank-you Tom.

Mark Murison: Community Development Manager at West Kent Extra Housing Association
We were looking for someone to provide some great entertainment at our Community Fundays and Tom fitted the bill. Tom was fantastic across all the events he covered for us in the summer of 2014. The children and parents loved the workshops and Tom was great at getting everyone involved. We were so happy with Tom that we have rebooked him for this upcoming summer. I feel that if anyone is looking at providing entertainment for their event then you should contact Tom straight away, you won't be disappointed. Thank you for your time and kind support. I value your business and look forward to working with you again in the future.

Hannah Maitland: Community Development Supervisor at Tenterden Leisure Centre
I booked TK Arts after hearing great reviews from other sites within our company and thought the Circus Skills Workshop would fit in brilliantly with our activity programme. Tom was extremely professional and it was easy to arrange and book the workshop with him. We had a total of 25 children attend the workshop on the day and Tom was extremely skilled in capturing and maintaining their focus throughout the initial instructions and gave safety guidelines in a clear and easy way the children immediately took on board and followed. Tom took the time to work with each of the children and help them understand how to use each of the pieces of equipment he provided. The schedule of the workshop worked really well, so the children all had time to practice the pieces of equipment they enjoyed best and some really started to get the hang of it too, even in the relatively brief, 2hr session. I would highly recommend Tom Kellett/TK Arts to any groups such as scouts, brownies, schools, etc, as a really enjoyable session that teaches children the basics of a variety of circus/performing arts equipment. I would love to have TK Arts run another workshop with us, that's for sure!

Jane Fraser: Parent of child at Circus Workshop in Maidstone
Great Circus Skills Workshop! Really clearly explained and demonstrated. Learnt loads and had lots of fun.

Jacqueline Tysoe: Upper School Team Leader at The Downs CEP School in Deal
The children were engaged throughout the workshop and learnt a variety of skills. The children were provided with good building blocks to scaffold their learning of new skills. The workshops fitted well with the theme of the learning this term.

Anna Fenwick: Deputy Director of Year 9 at Astor College in Dover
Tom came to Astor College for a day as part of our activities week in the Summer of 2015. We wanted students to get a chance to learn new skills and work as part of a group as well as individuals. Tom had planned out the day so students had different activities to do over the day and were engaged throughout. He demonstrated all skills with humour and fun. Students got to try all the skills and worked in groups at the end to showcase their favourite skills and what they had learnt. During his demonstrations he brought students up to participate, which was fun for all the students involved and was a great way to break the ice. He was reasonably priced and provided all the equipment for the day. Thank you for such a great day!

Sarah McLeod: Teacher at The Oaks Infant School in Sittingbourne
A thoroughly enjoyable one hour session for each of three classes. Well-organised, efficient and superb variety of completely entertaining activities!

Cheryl Trice: Diocesan Children and Young People's Adviser in Rochester
Knowing the quality and professionalism of Tom Kellett from working with him previously in KCC, I knew that there would be a high standard of interaction with the children, young people and families at the event. Not only would the participants enjoy the activities but they would also learn and gain specific skills and knowledge involved with circus skills. During the event, Tom was punctual and was dedicated to the services he had been booked for, and there were several participants who in the feedback have acknowledged how good the activities were. I would have no hesitiation in booking Tom/TK Arts for another event, particularly if the organiser/host wanted activities that the whole family or a wide and diverse age range could participate in. Tom can bring many elements into a session or event either through teaching skills or just having fun.

Chloe Burnett: Acting Deputy Head at Rolvenden Primary School in Cranbrook
Tom not only arrived early but dedicated his lunchtime to sharing his skills with the whole school. Children were engaged, calm and full of smiles - as well as juggling skills!

Gemma Matten: Assistant Youth Development Officer/Youth Offending Team Officer at Strood Youth Centre
Please see below, the young people's comments from the circus skills workshop as requested. As you can see they absolutely loved it and it was an awesome session. We would like to thank you for such a brilliant workshop.

I wan't expecting that tonight.
It was awesome. My favourite one was the spinning plates.
It was ok but I have all that equipment at home so it's easy for me.
It was fun.
It was good.
I loved it! Such fun!
I enjoyed balancing the feather because it was something I could do.
Super fun! I loved doing tricks with the scarves.
I enjoyed learning new things.
I liked the fact that I've learnt how to do a trick and I can do it three times in a row.
I love this because the feather was great and there was so much to do.

Alison Barton: Secretary of Tunbridge Wells Residents Association
Thank you, Tom, for providing great entertainment for the kids at our garden party. They don't each other that well and cover a broad range of ages, but all thoroughly enjoyed their time with you, learned some new skills and enjoyed performing together for their 'show' - Perfect! Thank you.

Michael Bunce: Parent of child's 7th Birthday Party in Faversham
A thrilling party enjoyed by all! The children were engaged throughout, with lots of excitement and energy. We met Tom at a Summer Fair at Luddenham School. I was impressed with the way he engaged with the children and his educational approach to demonstrating and guiding their experiments with circus skills. Heather decided there and then that she would like Tom for her birthday party. Heather said, "I liked it very much when you did a race with the feathers. I felt like it as meant to be a circus party!" I fully recommend Tom for children's parties and educational events and clubs at schools.

Charlotte Baskerville: Early Help Worker at Kent County Council

Tom was very friendly and approachable. He was a real asset to our event, the children and adults loved it and it really fitted in with our theme to promote healthy living by learning skills and playing. Thank you so much, please come again!

Amanda Agates: Youth Development Worker at Medway Youth Service

Young people found the session fun and learnt new skills. One young person said that the instructor was humorous. Tom kept an active audience for the whole session. He even encouraged young people who are difficult to engage in activities, to develop their co-ordination and skills.

Pam Wilkinson: Family Party in Cardiff

We wanted an activity for our Christmas family gathering, with something of interest to all ages. Tom was great. He demonstrated then let everyone who wanted to, have a go. It was good fun and was enjoyed by everyone. I heard about Tom from his aunt who is a friend of mine.

Peter Gillham: Youth Worker at St Mary's Island Youth Club in Chatham

Excellent range of skills expertly taught, friendly, but good control of exuberant children. Kept children involved. Good finish. Will invite back.

Jade: Playworker at Callowell Primary School's Holiday Club in Stroud

Tom was very enthusiastic and engaging within his teaching, often taking time to ensure the children felt reassured and had the confidence to take part. We've had a brilliant morning, thank you!

Martin Elliott: Senior Early Help Worker for Kent County Council at Bewl Water, Tunbridge Wells

We asked for Tom as his enthusiasm and professional approach make an atmosphere that is so good for our young people. The young people all had a great time and loved every minute.
